What to Expect
The process of therapy can look different for each person. Some people are looking for short term solutions, while others may want ongoing support for difficulties experienced through a season of life. My approach is generally that “therapy” or “counseling” should be considered temporary (though the time may be different for each person). Typically regardless of what brings you to counseling, we will work to resolve the issue, find ways to build coping skills so as to reduce the impacts of the issue, or find ways to empower ourselves while accepting what we cannot change.
There are some logistical processes especially in the first few sessions similar to other medical appointments that enable insurance to be used. Typically for the Client this looks like:
1) Filling out intake paperwork (via Sessions Health portal) and setting up an intake session.
2) Intake during which a “diagnostic interview/assessment” is completed -which includes getting to know you, what is bringing you to counseling at this time, considering what mental health symptoms you might be experiencing, and a little about your background.
3) Considering what you are hoping to get from the experience and clarifying treatment goals.
4) Counseling sessions (typically weekly at first and decreasing over time depending on need).
5) Periodic reviews regarding whether we are meeting your goals.
6) Ending therapy or referring out when treatment goals are met or a need for a different provider is discussed.
Can I use insurance?
YES! I am contracted with the following insurance providers: Blue Cross Blue Shield, Medica, UBH, Aetna, Health Partners, UCARE. I am also contracted to take Medicare.
Prior to intake, you will have access to the Client Portal and we will get your insurance information on file. I will also ask you about copays, and have a credit card (HSA/FSA included) on file to enable speedy bill paying so that your bills do not add up.
It may still be important to reach out to your insurance provider regarding the scope of what services are covered. Sessions will be billed to insurance within one week of the session being completed.
